Public Affairs & Stakeholder Relations Manager

Our client is a global specialty driven pharmaceutical company with a significant presence in primary care. Our client sells more than 20 drugs in over 115 countries, with a direct commercial presence in over 30 countries worldwide.

The Public Affairs & Stakeholder Relations Manager leads the strategic plan for the development of stakeholder relations and patient advocacy groups to improve patient outcomes in Canada, ensure patient access to our therapies, maximize growth and accelerate commercialization. This role contributes to building the company’s position as a credible, patient-centric industry partner and has a dual reporting relationship to the Country Manager of Canada and the North American Government Affairs Vice President.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the healthcare environment to ensure broad clarity around critical issues, identifying areas where Public Affairs can contribute. Develops and implements patient advocacy strategies in specific disease areas.
  • Advises and engages in market-shaping activities to refine and execute tactical initiatives within the Public Affairs plans, aligned with NA objectives/positioning and Canada commercial strategic plans, product launch plans and overall strategic initiatives.
  • Involved in industry trade associations that focus on Canada and provincial legislative or policy initiatives and successfully advocates advancement of the company and our patient priorities
  • Establishes and maintains excellent relationships with key legislative, executive, administrative and public policymakers, influencers, and funding and reimbursement authorities. Develops and implements company lobbying and public affairs strategies as they relate to key policies.
  • Monitors national and provincial legislation and policy relating to healthcare issues, trend spots and effectively communicates to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Actively participates in various coalitions and working groups in support of the company’s policy agenda. Works with advocacy and government policy vendors to gather required understanding.
  • Manages work with external vendors/consultants as it pertains to stakeholder mapping, strategy development, outreach, etc. and ensures business expectations are met.
  • Develops as necessary, written analyses, advocacy and background materials in support of company objectives.
  • Effectively establishes implementation plans to translate strategies into actions across all therapeutic areas - Oncology, Endocrinology, Neuroscience.
  • Provides policy input for risk/benefit analyses to key political and regulatory stakeholders.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Has a basic understanding of the business and can identify, target and implement opportunities
  • Understands the company’s patient-centric approach and can identify issues as they arise
  • Enjoys working independently to deliver solutions and results
  • Exceptional organization and follow-up skills as well as attention to detail
  • A strong collaborator, capable of bringing diverse and cross-functional teams together to drive results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (communicates comfortably with high-profile audiences/stakeholders)
  • Language requirement: French is considered an asset

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Political Sciences, Public Policy, Business Administration, or Economics
  • Master’s degree preferred (MPA, MBA or MPH)
  • 7-10 years of experience in Government Relations, Public Policy
  • 5-10 years of experience working with patient stakeholder groups and proven track record of partnership approach. Oncology, Neuroscience therapeutic area of experience is an asset
  • Experience working for a pharmaceutical company in Canada or other institutional/corporate experience - global company in scope

Details

  • Field-based role with regular weekly work at the Mississauga office
  • 40% travel time is required (New Jersey and some international travel)
