Job Summary

A Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for successful implementation of the regional field-based component of the Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area (TA) Strategic Plan in collaboration with the MSL, Oncology (Quebec & Eastern Canada) and the Director, Medical and Regulatory Affairs. The MSL, Oncology is a disease
state and product expert, responsible for responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) in Ontario and Western Canada as they relate to the company's products. The candidate in this position will prepare and give presentations of medical/clinical data on company products to healthcare professionals, including individual physicians, researchers, medical and pharmacy directors, hospital decision makers, formulary committees, pharmacists, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key professionals in the area of Oncology at the regional level (Ontario and Western Canada), educating key healthcare professionals with current medical, scientific and pharmacoeconomic information on company products and therapeutic areas. Increase the awareness of the company and its marketed products allowing the key healthcare professionals to make informed therapeutic decisions via one-on-one scientific exchange and through HCP learning programs (Other Learning Activities) (60%)
  • Developing working relationships with healthcare professionals who are influencers and opinion leaders within their area of expertise. (15%)
  • Work with investigators to facilitate the process for clinical trials (both company sponsored and investigator sponsored studies). Expedite the development and collection of quality data for company pipeline compounds and marketed products. (10%)
  • Prepare approved medical presentation materials on company marketed products; give these medical presentations to private and public payer groups or hospital formulary committees (or related groups) when requested, to support their reviewing the utility of the company's products for their plans. This will allow plans to make the informed decisions about formulary coverage using company products. (5%)
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of Regional Advisory Board meetings for company marketed products, including making presentations, and leading interactive discussion groups. Provide resource for presenting medical information; allowing the company to glean information from physicians about the utility of our products and how they compare in the marketplace, through a learned intermediary. Contribute to the development of the Oncology Medical strategic plan. (5%)
  • Review and evaluate scientific publications, and develop, in collaboration with Medical, Market Access, and Marketing teams, key information summaries for Sales Reps and other internal stakeholders. Respond in collaboration with Medical Services – Medical information to unsolicited requests for scientific information received directly from customers or conveyed through the Sales Reps. (5%)

Experience & Education 

  • Previous MSL experience (strongly preferred)
  • Post-graduate degree in medical/biosciences strongly preferred (i.e., M.D., PhD, PharmD, MSc)
  • Disease state management expertise in Oncology (breast, thyroid, kidney, or liver cancer) 
  • Clinical research/drug development experience

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Understanding of local regulations and Innovative Medicines Canada Code of Ethical Practices
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and the contribution provided by Medical and Scientific Affairs
  • Understanding of commercial operations including Marketing and Sales strategic interests
  • Independent self-starter with the ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Strong broad based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Excellent presentation and teaching skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within established timelines and budgets
  • Ability to manage frequent travel schedule (40-60% overnight travel)
